    Pulitzer Prize Winners - Biography

Established in 1917 by Hungarian-American newspaper publisher Joseph Pulitzer and presented by Columbia University in New York City, the Pulitzer Prizes are annual American awards "honoring excellence in journalism and the arts."

Each year, a board of jurors selects winners and finalists across multiple categories. This list includes works that won the Pulitzer Prize for Biography (formerly known as the Pulitzer Prize for Biography or Autobiography), an award that recognizes "a distinguished and appropriately documented biography by an American author."

Due to changing formats and criteria, certain years may not have any winners or finalists. Additionally, the board may recognize works that fall outside the current definition of "biography." Autobiographies and memoirs, for instance, were eligible for this reward prior to 2023.

Works are sorted from newest to oldest.
